A 911 call was placed around 2:30 a.m. for a shooting at the Avants’ home in Trousdale Estates. According to a family source, the suspects who broke into the home fired the shots that fatally wounded Jacqueline. She had already been transported to the hospital by the time the police arrived. Clarence was reportedly at the home but it’s unclear if he was also injured.
Clarence was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this past October and was the subject of the 2019 Netflix documentary, The Black Godfather. Jacqueline was the president of childcare group Neighbors of Watts and was on the board of directors for UCLA’s International Student Center.
No suspects have been arrested or identified. Jacqueline was 81 years old at the time of her passing.
