Authorities in the nation’s capital released a video showing a city council candidate being carjacked at a gas station last weekend in broad daylight.
In the video, Nate Fleming, a D.C. politician and Council at Large candidate, is seen walking near his vehicle when an SUV pulls up alongside him. A gunman hops out of the SUV and points a gun in Fleming’s face before the politician gives up his keys. The gunman and his associates are then seen making their getaway.
Following the incident, Fleming issued a statement via Twitter. “To be threatened at gunpoint is shocking,” he wrote, “but I am not surprised that I was attacked given the increase in carjackings and the crisis facing young people in this city.”
Fleming added, “The perpetrators of violent crime are getting younger and younger.”
