Jennilynne Derolf was arrested and charged with felony counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, statutory sexual assault, unlawful contact with a minor, aggravated indecent assault, and institutional sexual assault last month. The 38-year-old was also facing misdemeanor counts of indecent assault and corruption of minors.
After the boy’s grandmother informed police that her grandson was having a sexual relationship with the teacher’s aide, detectives interviewed the alleged victim. The boy claimed he and Derolf began texting on a messaging app before they began having sex in early June. The 14-year-old offered details of the affair, including the number of times and where the pair had sex.
Derolf was eventually arrested and held on a $100,000 bond. She was also suspended from her job and barred from entering the school and having contact with students.
She posted bail on July 23, but the teen’s family found out Derolf had been contacting the boy and set up a meeting between the two. The family informed the police on August 22, causing the authorities to show up at the pair’s meeting location. Once the police showed up, Derolf pulled out a gun and fatally shot herself in front of the 14-year-old.
Derolf’s preliminary hearing was scheduled for October. The case remains under investigation.
