Suspect Arrested for the Murder of Bay Area Rapper Who Posted His IG Location

A 22-year-old man has been arrested for the murder of Richmond rapper Tay Way, who was shot to death in September 2020 after posting his location on Instagram.

Deante Reed was arrested and charged for the murder of 29-year-old Lamonta “Tay Way” Butcher. According to court records, Tay Way was chased and gunned down minutes after posting an Instagram video that showed his location. Charging records accuse Reed and an accomplice of driving in a rented Nissan to Tay Way after the rapper posted a video of him leaving a recognizable liquor store. Once the suspect arrived, a passenger allegedly opened fire on Tay Way and two others before Reed chased Tay Way down as he attempted to escape.

Deante Reed has also been charged with conspiracy to commit murder and attempted murder for an incident that occurred six days before Tay Way’s death. Court records state that both Tay Way and the victim from the prior shooting were part of the Richmond gang, Deep C. Gang enhancements have also been added to the charging records.

Reed is currently being held without bail and is due in court for an arraignment on April 6th.
