Suspect Arrested for Abducting, Sexually Assaulting, & Shooting 12-Year-Old Boy

An arrest has been made in connection to the 12-year-old boy who was shot after being abducted and sexually assaulted in the Brownsville neighborhood of Northwest Miami-Dade County.

Police arrested 43-year-old Aliex Santiesteban after DNA evidence helped investigators link the suspect to last weekend’s attack. In addition, law enforcement said they found the car involved in the incident with a gun inside of it.

“The DNA evidence, we were able to put the suspect with the victim, so we definitely have DNA evidence that is compelling as well as other physical evidence that we know the subject was in the area,” said Special Victims Bureau Major Brian Rafky.

The victim admitted to detectives that he snuck out of the house to hang out with friends when a man kidnapped him. According to police, the boy was walking at 3 A.M. on Saturday when he was abducted at gunpoint.

“He said the driver got out, walked up to him and grabbed him, and forced him inside the vehicle,” said Detective Alvaro Zabaleta. “Once he was inside the vehicle he tried to get out, but the child locks were activated. He couldn’t open the doors.”

Surveillance footage captured the aftermath of the attack as the 12-year-old was covered in blood before collapsing to the ground. The boy was helped to a nearby store where 911 was dialed.

As the victim remains in the hospital, Aliex Santiesteban has been charged with armed sexual battery, kidnapping a child under 13 years of age, and attempted felony murder. Santiesteban has denied the allegations.
