R. Kelly Wants Herpes-Related Charges Dropped From Federal Case

R. Kelly’s federal sex crimes case has started in New York, and according to reports, the singer filed legal documents asking the court to toss out charges for knowingly exposing sexual partners to herpes.

Kelly and his team claim the legislature didn’t include herpes in the law, saying it is “not an acute, bacterial venereal disease.” This comes after Kelly was accused of exposing two people to an STD in March 2020. The court documents filed by R. Kelly’s legal team say herpes doesn’t fall under the window of STDs. They claim herpes can’t be placed in that category because of how it was defined by the New York State Department of Health, as well as the World Health Organization.

The legal team says the organizations refer to herpes as a virus, not a bacterial venereal disease, so they want the herpes-related charges removed. As of now, Kelly and his team are preparing for a criminal trial in Chicago as well. Stay tuned for more updates.
