NFL QB Dwayne Haskins dies after being hit by car in South Florida

Pittsburgh quarterback Dwayne Haskins, a former college standout at Ohio State, died on Saturday morning after being hit by a car in South Florida according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Haskins was in South Florida for personal work outs with his Steelers teammates.

“I am devastated and at a loss for words with the unfortunate passing of Dwayne Haskins,” said Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin in a statement. “He quickly became part of our Steelers family upon his arrival in Pittsburgh and was one of our hardest workers, both on the field and in our community. Dwayne was a great teammate, but even more so a tremendous friend to so many. I am truly heartbroken.”

The 24-year-old Haskins was a first-round draft choice of Washington in 2019 and started seven games, going 2-5 as a rookie. The former Ohio State star was 1-5 in six starts the next season for the team, then was released.

In his only year as a starting quarterback at Ohio State, Haskins threw for 50 touchdowns, becoming one of only seven quarterbacks to reach that milestone in a single NCAA season.

Haskins, 24, was drafted by the Washington Commanders in the first round of the 2019 NFL draft. He was released during the 2020 season, and signed with Pittsburgh during the 2021 offseason.
