Minnesota Man Assaults Officer, Drags Him with Truck Before Being Arrested

Minnesota policing is under the most acute microscope due to police killings in George Floyd’s wake and, most recently, 20-year-old Daunte Wright. But police in Hutchinson, MN, have people calling hypocrisy for the way they handled a hostile situation with a 61-year-old white man.

According to reports, Luke Alvine Oeltjenbruns, 61, allegedly attacked an employee at a local hardware store. After authorities arrived, Oeltjenbruns engaged the officer who approached his vehicle by striking him with a hammer in his possession and drove away from the scene, dragging the officer with him.

The McLeod County Sheriff’s office said of the situation:

“The individual arrested yesterday in the incident involving an assault on a Hutchinson Police Officer is Luke Alvine Oeltjenbruns, age 61, of rural Hutchinson. Oeltjenbruns was booked into the McLeod County Jail on probable cause [of] first-degree assault. Additional charges are also being considered and this case remains under investigation. The officer involved was released from the hospital and is currently at home recovering.”
