The rapper, whose real name was Dawan Turner, was reportedly shot in the morning on a residential block. Family friend, Hilda Alayeto, claimed Big Wan was upstairs at home with his mother and grandmother when he was fatally struck by bullets that were fired into the home.
The rising artist was recently featured in a Pitchfork profile of Milwaukee’s emerging acts. Big Wan was known to family and friends as a charismatic presence who was kind and easygoing.
“He was just so humble,” said his manager, Will Norton. “He just picked up on everything and he never disagreed. He listened. He was just focused on really making it.”
The city’s police department is currently investigating the shooting as a homicide.
