Marlon Wayans explained to Essence why he’s never been married despite coming from one of the most legendary Black families in Hollywood. During his interview, he stated that he’s never tied the knot because he wanted to keep his other as the number one woman in his life.
Marlon opened up about his final moments with his mother, who passed away last year at 81. He shared that his final words to his mother were him telling her he never got married because he never wanted another woman to come between them.
“Recently, my mom passed, and on her deathbed, I said, ‘Can I tell you something, woman?’ She was in a lot of pain and she was fighting to stay alive, or fighting to go,” Marlon said. “And I said, ‘I’m 47 years old, and I’ve never been married because I always wanted you to be my number one girl. My mother turned over, she looked at me, she grabbed my hand, she pulled me close to her and said, ‘I know. I love you too.'”
Marlon said those were his last words to his mother. He continued by claiming his mother needed him during her later years and spoke about spouses often battling for attention.
“I never got married because I knew my mom needed me,” he added. “Women sometimes want to battle for your attention, they want to battle for your love, they want to be the one. My mama here — she the one.”
