Man Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison for the Murder of Kansas City Rapper

According to reports, a man was sentenced to 20 years in prison after admitting to murdering a Kansas City rapper back in 2015.

Derius Taylor, 32, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and armed criminal action for his role in the murder of 20-year-old Dominique Stafford.

Authorities say, Stafford, who was a locally known rapper, was the mark of a staged robbery disguised as a drug deal. Court records show Taylor shot Stafford upon entering his vehicle and subsequently stole a diamond chain and a rifle that was in the vehicle. Taylor’s accomplice then hopped in the car with Stafford’s body while Taylor trailed behind in another vehicle.

Court records also indicate that Taylor pawned the victim’s diamond chain.

Just a month before Dominique Stafford was murdered, his brother, Arthur Stafford, 22, was shot and killed. The two brothers were artists on the Kansas City-based record company, Duced Out Records.
