Man Convicted Of Killing LSU Basketball Star Wayde Sims Found Dead In Prison

In 2018, LSU basketball star Wayde Sims was killed by a man named Dyteon Simpson. Sims was shot in the head following an altercation near LSU’s campus, and Simpson reportedly lost his glasses, which were recovered by police who used DNA to find the suspect. Simpson ultimately admitted to the shooting and was convicted shortly after. Recently, Simpson received a life sentence for second-degree murder. Now, according to the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, Simpson has been confirmed to be dead.

Simpson was found unresponsive in prison this past Sunday at 8 PM. A medical team tried to give aid to the 23-year-old, according to TMZ Sports. Simpson was pronounced dead shortly after. A spokesperson for the police said, “The EBR Coroner will conduct an autopsy and determine final cause of death. This investigation is ongoing as to the cause of death and possibility of contraband.” A preliminary toxicology report showed Simpson had fentanyl in his system.
