Man Accused of Orchestrating David Ortiz Shooting Gets Gunned Down

One of the suspects in the 2019 shooting of Boston Red Sox legend David Ortiz was reportedly gunned down Sunday in the Dominican Republic.

David Ortiz was visiting his hometown, the Dominican Republic, when he was shot outside of a bar in June 2019. The attack caused the future Hall of Famer to be hospitalized for over a month before making a full recovery.

Luis Alfredo Rivas-Clase, known as “El Cirujano” (The Surgeon), was one of 12 men suspected of orchestrating the attempt on the retired Major League Baseball player. He was the only suspect that law enforcement was still trying to track down prior to his death. All other suspects have been jailed since the 2019 shooting

Rivas-Clase was shot outside of a shopping center in broad daylight. Investigators reportedly found 27 shell casings at the scene of the shooting. Reports also claim Rivas-Clase was in a high-speed chase with his attackers until he crashed and was gunned down as he tried to flee.

The motive for Sunday’s shooting remains unknown.
