Leo Terrell Goes Off on Geraldo for Asking Last Time He Was in the Ghetto

Geraldo Rivera and civil rights attorney Leo Terrell sat down for an appearance on Bill Hemmer’s Fox News show to discuss St. Louis mayor Tishaura Jones, the first Black mayor-elect of the city, and her plans to reduce the crime rate.

At one point, the conversation centered on Jones telling her opponent in the race that her experiences as a Black woman would help her to enact change in the minority community. Terrell called Jones’s comment insulting, racist, and nonsensical. Geraldo then asked Terrell, “When was the last time you went to the ghetto?”

At that point, Terrell went off on Geraldo, repeatedly telling him, “How dare you!,” and then pointing out that he has been a civil rights attorney for 30 years. After the show, Geraldo apologized on Twitter, writing, “Apologize to @TheLeoTerrell did not mean to imply that he doesn’t get realities of urban life. Sorry Leo didn’t mean it personally. I wish St Louis’ new mayor the best. She has her hands full in a city beset by violent crime.”
