Georgia Councilman Threatened To Shoot Woman, Called Her N-Word⁠

According to reports, a city councilman in Georgia was charged with assault and making terroristic threats after he allegedly threatened to shoot a woman along with calling her the n-word.

A police report filed on July 2 noted that City councilman Jimmy Barnes threatened to shoot a woman at a highway convenience store and allegedly called her the n-word numerous times. Police ended up arresting the man following the incident, as he was apprehended on July 12.

Fort Valley Mayor Barbara Williams spoke on the incident, saying, “In the heat of the moment sometimes people don’t know how to deescalate anger, we’ve seen it all over the country, everywhere.” Barnes’ bond was set at $50,000, and he was released on July 15. It was noted that Barnes is required to wear an ankle monitor.

Despite being arrested, it was noted that councilman Jimmy Barnes would not be suspended from the council.
