Founding Member of The Roots, Leonard ‘Hub’ Hubbard, Dies at 62

According to reports, bassist Leonard Hubbard, prominently known as “Hub,” and a founding member of The Roots, died on Thursday at the age of 62. Hubbard’s wife told reporters that the musician had been battling cancer for the past decade but noted that his health took a turn for the worst last night.

“I was called to the hospital. They told me what had happened that he had passed. I went to the hospital and was able to sit with him,” Stephanie Hubbard said tearfully. She also said that she was unable to be by his side due to COVID protocol.

The Roots honored their fallen groupmate via Twitter: “It’s with the heaviest of hearts that we say goodbye to our brother Leonard Nelson Hubbard. May your transition bring peace to your family to your friends to your fans and all of those who loved you.   Rest in Melody Hub”
