DOJ Investigating 2017 Incident Between Derek Chauvin and Black Teen

According to reports, the Department of Justice is considering charging the newly convicted Derek Chauvin over a 2017 incident involving a black teen. The incident was brought to light in the midst of the investigation into the murder of George Floyd.

Chauvin was on video striking a 14-year-old so hard the wound required stitches to close. He also knelt on the teen for nearly 17 minutes as the youngster said he couldn’t breathe. A state prosecutor said the video shows “a far more violent and forceful treatment of this child than Chauvin describes in his report,” however, no disciplinary action was taken against Chauvin.

The DOJ is now looking into the case, and Minnesota state officials are cooperating with the investigation. Federal charges could be brought against Chauvin relating to the George Floyd murder, as well.
