Miami-Dade Police and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to the area of Northeast 180th Street and Sixth Avenue, just after 3:30 p.m., Monday.
A man was pronounced dead on the scene by MDFR. The other victim, a woman, suffered a gunshot wound to the hand and was transport to Aventura Hospital.
Detectives have since been calling the incident a drive-by shooting.
7Skyforce hovered over the scene where a yellow tarp covered the male victim next to a red BMW. Dozens of shell casings from the gunshots surrounded the vehicle.
The front driver side door alone had eight bullet holes.
“I was taking a nap, and all of a sudden, I heard gunshot bang, bang, bang, bang, bang,” said Sheldon Feinberg, who lives nearby.
Shots were fired from a white vehicle and is said to have fled the scene going eastbound on 183rd Street over Interstate 95 at the Miami Gardens exit.
Police have shutdown the eastbound lanes of Miami Gardens Drive at Sixth Avenue and the southbound exit ramp from Interstate 95 to Miami Gardens Drive, at this time.
Residents who live in the neighborhood right next to where the incident took place, heard rapid fire gunshots.
“I came out and said to my wife, ‘Did that sound like they were gunshots? Cause that’s not the normal sound of backfiring,’” said Fienberg, “and she said ‘yeah.’ We heard about four different, four shots.”
Neighbors are also curious of what may have happened that led to the car getting shot up.
“It echoes between the houses. It was pretty loud,” said Fienberg. “I was surprised, because we don’t have that thing around here, especially if it’s like a drive-by or something.”
Officers aren’t releasing too many details about the man who died.
It remains unknown whether there are multiple shooters or just one, at this time. The shooter or shooters are still at large.
At this time Police are still investigating.
